Dr. Awika is an associate professor at Texas A&M University, College Station. He received his PhD in Food Science & Technology from Texas A&M in 2003. He joined Texas A&M faculty in 2008 after previously working at University of Missouri (2006-2008) and Arkansas State University (2004-2005). Dr. Awika teaches courses in cereal processing and carbohydrate chemistry at undergraduate and graduate levels. He has graduated 6 PhD and 9 MS students; served on the committee of another 10 PhD and 31 MS graduates; and mentored 6 post-doctoral students. His advisees hold lucrative positions in academia and grain-base industry. Dr. Awika’s research focuses on generating knowledge to improve health promoting attributes of grain products, and is funded through various federal, private foundation, and industry sources. He has served on several national and international scientific panels and is editorial board member of Cereal Chemistry, and Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture.
