American Association of Cereal Chemists Changes Name to AACC
International
St. Paul, Minn. (February 23,
2005) — Members of the American Association of Cereal Chemists (AACC)
have voted in favor to change the association’s name to AACC
International. This is the first time the association’s name has changed
since its inception in 1915.
“The new name better reflects the direction of our association and the
grains industry as a whole,” said Steve Nelson, AACC International
executive director. “Our association’s new name, AACC International,
retains the initials by which the association has been known for 90
years, while eliminating reference to a specific scientific discipline
or profession, and reflects the international aspect of our
association,” he said.
Currently, international members make up about 28 percent of the
association’s membership and have demonstrated that they have the
greatest potential to continue to grow in number. “By changing our
association’s name, we are now able to more fully address the needs of
our growing number of non-U.S. members,” Nelson said.
Over the past few years, the association’s Board and International
Executive Council (IEC) have been gathering member input on this issue
by polling committees and sections and by hosting an online discussion
forum on the association’s website. At its last meeting, the Board of
Directors accepted the recommendation of the IEC to change the name of
the association to AACC International. Then, in December 2004, all
voting members were asked to cast their vote on this important change.
The change takes effect immediately.
AACC International is an organization of professionals who contribute to
the research, development, and processing of grains and grain-based
products.
