American Association of Cereal Chemists Installs New Board 

St. Paul, Minn. (September 17, 2003) - The American Association of Cereal Chemists (AACC) is pleased to announce the newly elected officials for 2003-2004. The following AACC leadership will be installed at the conclusion of the AACC Annual Meeting in Portland, Oregon, September 28- October 2, 2003.

George Lookhart, new AACC president-elect, is a research chemist with the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Research Service at the Grain Marketing and Production Research Center (GMPRC) in Manhattan, KS. Lookhart has been an active AACC member since 1977 serving in numerous leadership roles. Lookhart was program chair for the 1998 AACC Annual Meeting and served on the AACC Board of Directors from 2000 to 2002. He was named an AACC Fellow in 1998 and currently serves on the AACC Fellows Committee. 

Khalil Khan, new AACC director, is a professor in the Department of Cereal and Food Sciences at North Dakota State University, Fargo, ND. Khan joined AACC in 1973 and has been actively involved in various sectors of the association. He served as an associate editor for Cereal Chemistry, co-chair of the Protein and Amino Acid Technical Committee, and as a member of the AACC Education Committee. Currently, he is a member of the Thomas Burr Osborne Medal Committee, is chair-elect of the Protein Division and is the technical program chair for the 2003 AACC Annual Meeting.

Filip Arnaut, newly appointed AACC director, is a Group Long Term Research Director of the Puratos Group, a worldwide bakery ingredients company. In this function he has a strong focus on promoting collaborative research with universities, research centers, clients, and suppliers. Arnaut has been an AACC member for 10 years and served on the International Committee. He is also a long-time member of the AACC European section.

Sakharam Patil, newly appointed ACCC director, spent 24 years at American Maize/Cerestar in various positions before his retirement in 2002. His most recent position was vice president of technology transfer and quality. He has been a member of AACC since 1972 and has served as a member on a number of AACC committees.

James Dexter, a senior research scientist at the Canadian Grain Commission Grain Research Laboratory (GRL) in Winnipeg, MB, Canada, will begin his term as AACC president at the conclusion of the AACC annual meeting. Other members of the 2003-2004 board include: Brendan Donnelly, chair of the board; Elizabeth Knight, treasurer; Larry Johnson, director; Virgil Smail, director; and Alicia DeFrancisco, international director.

The American Association of Cereal Chemists (AACC) is an international organization of nearly 3,000 grain scientists and other professionals who study the chemistry of cereal grains and their products or work in related fields.
