Elsayed Abdelaal

 

Dr. Elsayed Abdelaal received his PhD in the field of grain chemistry and nutrition in 1989 under a joint supervision between the University of Saskatchewan and Alexandria University. He is a well-known expert in this area with significant contributions particularly in the development of purple wheat products, hairless canary seed as a novel food, barley as a low glycemic food, and high-lutein wheat/corn foods. He has published more than 120 publications (research articles, reviews and book chapters) and edited the 2004 bestselling book entitled “Specialty Grains for Food and Feed” published by the AACCI. He is also the recipient of the AAFC Gold Harvest Award in 2013. He is the founder of the Bioactive Compounds Technical Committee in 2008 and the Chair of the committee up to 2016. He was also the Vice Chair of the Nutrition Division (2014-2016). He has also assumed the role of Associate Faculty with the University of Guelph since 2000 and Adjunct Professor at the University of Toronto since 2013. Dr. Abdelaal is currently the Associate Director for Guelph Research and Development Centre at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.
