Dr.
Bert Popping
Between 1989-1995
Dr Popping has been working in the field of yeast
molecular genetics, immunology and biochemistry at
the universities of Bochum (Germany) and Durham
(UK). This work included the design and the
production of transgenic yeast. He joined the UK
Agency of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries
& Food in December 1995 and became the Head of
GMO and Molecular Meat Speciation Service at CSL in
1997. This laboratory offered the first commercial
GMO testing service in the UK. In 1999 he joined
Eurofins Scientific as Company Molecular Biologist
and Head of Department at Eurofins WEJ Laboratory in
Germany. He became one of the three UK national
experts in the newly established CEN working group,
which has the task to harmonize methods for the
detection of genetically modified organisms in
Europe.
