322 Fumonisins testing and the official inspection system.

DON KENDALL. USDA Federal Grain Inspection Service, Kansas City, MO 64153-1377.

The Grain Inspection, Packers, and Stockyards Administration (GIPSA) of the USDA provides official testing of grains for a number of objective and subjective factors. In anticipation of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) establishing advisory or regulatory levels for fumonisins, GIPSA must be prepared to provide official testing throughout the United States to facilitate the marketing of grain. This presentation will focus on: a) Development of the HPLC reference method for fumonisins, and 2) Evaluation and certification process for the performance of the new test kits as well as those already certified for use in GIPSA’s Official Inspection System.
