A business case for internships. Deirdre Bath. Project Leader and Intern Program Chair Kellogg Company, Battle Creek, MI.

An intern program can be used to build scientific resources, to build a recruiting program, increase diversity, as well as add youthful enthusiasm and optimism to the organization. The long term financial benefits to top line and bottom line growth of a company will be explored during this discussion. The growth potential of adding short term students as interns, in particular graduate student interns, can be great. The ability of an intern to focus a lot of attention on a specific issue is not unlike hiring a consultant, but with the added benefit of looking at the students as potential employees. Also, the students greatly benefit in maturity and experiences.
