Since its inception in 1989,
the AACC Intl. Foundation has focused on providing undergraduate scholarships and graduate
fellowships to students excelling in studies relevant to grain-based food science
and technology. For the school year 2008-09, eight students received $17,000 in funding from the various Foundation endowment and scholarship funds.
AACC Intl. Foundation Awards Eight Graduate
Fellowships and Undergraduate Scholarships for 2008-2009
The Scholarship Committee, named a total of seven graduate and
one undergraduate
scholarship winners this year, all funded directly or indirectly through the AACC
Intl.Foundation. Seven graduate fellowships of $2,000 to $3,000 and one undergraduate scholarships
of $1,000 were awarded. Applicants had to have been majoring
in a program of courses and/or participating in research that would normally lead
to a career in cereal chemistry and technology (including oilseeds) or were to
have taken available courses and otherwise demonstrated interest in such a career.
Winners received their awards September 2008, accompanied by a certificate
suitable for presentation at a local section meeting or campus seminar, as arranged
by the department head. Recipients are listed with their home locations, school
year or degree program and major, and the amount and source (via the AACC Intl. Foundation)
of the funds awarded this year. Graduate
FellowshipsAACC Intl. fellowships are only
“renewable” in the sense that each year’s competition is new event, with
jury members instructed that previous winners are to be neither more nor
less favored relative to other applicants. The following list of includes
two winners from a previous year,
all of whom had been awarded graduate fellowships.
