DSM Biotechnology Centre (DBC) is the centre for biotechnological Research and Development (R&D) within the innovation driven company DSM. DBC is focused on the creation of new and improved products and processes for the internal business units of DSM like DSM Food Specialties (DFS), DSM Anti-Infectives (DAI), DSM Nutritional Products (DNP) and Emerging Business Areas for DSM such as White Biotechnology or Specialty Packaging.
Within the R&D department Applied Biochemistry we have a challenging vacancy for a (Senior) Cereal Scientist.
The Challenge
As (Senior) Cereal Scientist you will join a company developing the industry standards for specialty biotechnological solutions. DFS supplies the baking industry with state-of-the-art solutions to reduce costs across the value chain with customized ingredients. As specialist you will play an important role in the development of enzymes for various baking applications as bread, cake and cereals. We believe that enzyme technology supports important trends in the baking industry, such as salt and fat reduction, but also allowing improved quality and shelf life of baked goods. Our fully equipped pilot baking facility and professional bakery team is the ideal place for transforming your ideas in working applications.
In your role as (senior) scientist, you will be responsible for:
• The development of new and/or improved enzyme(-application)s on the basis of your expert knowledge.
• Generate and test hypotheses to improve enzyme functionality in cereal-based applications
• Leading a team of professionals to perform industrial research projects.
• Successful participation in multi-disciplinary project teams, including specialists from other departments (i.e. market specialists, genetics, fermentation, downstream processing, analysis, intellectual property, registration, etc).
• Scouting for new enzymes or enzyme-application opportunities
• Supporting and assisting for the worldwide market introduction of enzymes.
• Co-develop and maintain a scientific network outside DSM
• Further development of the scientific level of the competence Applied Biochemistry in relation to project demands

The Ideal
We are looking for professionals with an academic (PhD) education, preferably with several years of experience in applied biochemical research. Most preferably, you have several years experience in cereal or baking science. Candidates with an industrial background are invited to apply.
