Dear Friends,
The food professionals of today are definitely not the food professionals of 30 years ago. Today’s food industry is faced with tremendous challenges: producing safe and tasty foods that at the same time comply with requirements related to convenience and nutrition. How can we use our science and technology to help combat obesity and diabetes?
It is clear that a single person or even a single company is not able to meet such challenges. Today’s research is teamwork, combining the expertise and knowledge of scientists and technologists from all over the world. Today’s research is a global business, based on networks of professionals. AACC International is such a network, dedicated to professionals in the global cereals industry. AACC
International was founded by grain scientists to help standardize methods related to milling and baking. AACC International currently hosts a wide range of science disciplines actively engaged in quality and health issues related to cereal-based products. AACC
International was started in 1915 by scientists understanding the need to get organized and establish the association. I strongly believe that the AACC International of 2007 still meets the expectations of these
scientists.
In this information age, people often think that all the information they need is available at their fingertips: “Just Google it.” But who is helping you find the way when you are swamped by the thousands of information bits coming your way? Who is helping you to understand the value of the information on your screen, or helping you interpret it? I use online resources all the time, but I would not be able to cope without my network of professional and trusted friends just a phone call or e-mail message away. AACC International helped me build this network;
it shaped me as a cereal scientist. This is what AACC International can do for you as well.
This month, at the
6th European Young Cereal Scientists and Technologists Workshop in Montpellier, France, I met over 60 young cereal scientists, celebrating a wonderful meeting, making friends, learning from each other, strengthening the global network. It was the first meeting, completely organized by students for students, under the auspices of Cereals&Europe, the European section of AACC International.
I regard this issue of Caryopsis as yet another important achievement. I sincerely hope that it will help you become part of our network. AACC International is your key to accessing a professional career in the cereals industry. On behalf of AACC International I gladly welcome you and offer you our support!
