  • A Message From The Student Division Chair
I am excited to have this opportunity to work with the AACC International Student Division and keep it moving forward. Student Division membership offers great opportunities for networking, scholarships, and much more. Balancing the academic and extra curricular activities helps one to develop great management skills, which is what today’s  food industry professionals are expected to have. Opportunities to be involved at a national level offers one the chance to develop many team building, leadership, and people skills. I am very passionate about science and have a very strong desire to keep learning new things; AACC International offers a great exposure to high quality and cutting-edge research in the field of cereal science. The Product Development Competition provides a great opportunity for applying what one has learned and being creative.

The Student Division is really working hard to offer great student events at the 2008 annual meeting in Hawaii. The Student Division is planning a very eventful year ahead hosting the Product Development Competition, Silent Auction, social dinner, and possibly a career fair during the annual meeting. We are looking for more sponsorship for student division events; and are more than happy to hear from industry or academia for any donations.

I encourage all the Student Division members to find new opportunities and areas of improvement within the division.

    Rashmi Tiwari

    Make A Connection - Find A Mentor!
Ever wanted to get advice from a veteran cereal scientist? Here's your chance! Applications for the 2008 Mentoring Program are now being taken. The deadline for applications is July 1, 2008; participants will be sent information about their match in August.

The AACC International Mentoring Program is designed to foster relationships between experienced members (mentors) and those with less professional experience (protégés). The Mentoring Program is a function of AACC International's Professional Development Panel (PDP).

The mentoring program provides valuable benefits to the protégé, including:

  • Help with career development
  • Individual recognition and encouragement
  • Honest criticism and feedback
  • Advice from someone with more experience on a variety of subjects
  • Exposure to a new level of professional contacts and possible employment

Mentors and protégés will have a chance to meet in person at a special breakfast during the annual meeting in September, but mentors and protégés are encouraged to introduce themselves over the phone or Internet prior to the annual meeting. You need not attend the annual meeting in order to participate in this program. Mentors and protégés should continue to interact by whatever means is suitable for each pair.
