University Representative Meeting

Interested in becoming more active in the
student division or just want to share your
ideas? A review of the year's activities and
planning for next year is usually done in this
meeting. Members of the Executive Committee,
University and Division Representatives should
attend the meeting.
Speed Mentoring Event
Sunday 3:30 - 4:30 p.m.
This event will bring together mentors and those
who desire guidance as a protégé for speed
mentoring. These quick exchanges will allow you
to seek career and research guidance, hear about
the experiences of others, and potentially find
a long-term mentor/protégé match. Interested in
finding a mentor during this quick mentor
matching session? Please join us!

The AACC International Student Division Product
Development Competition (PDC) is organized by
students and sponsored by food companies who are
members of AACC Intl. The PDC provides a great
opportunity for students to apply the knowledge
and skills acquired in school to create new food
products professionally and intelligently in the
real business world. The competition is designed
to encourage innovative thinking of students in
the cereal science area, expose students to a
professional experience, and promote networking
with food industry representatives. Students can
work individually or in a team to develop a
novel food product containing at least one major
cereal/legume ingredient.
Student Division Business Meeting and Travel
Awards
Monday 2:00 - 3:30 p.m.
Get an update on current opportunities and
activities for student members. Come and ask
questions of professionals. The program will
conclude with the presentation of the travel
awards.
Student Division Dinner and Social
Monday 7:00 - 10:00 p.m.

Best Student Research Competition
Tuesday 8:30 - 11:00 a.m.
The AACC International Professional Development
Panel is hosting a Best Student Research Paper
Competition to be held at the 2011 AACC Intl.
Annual Meeting. The objectives of the
competition are to challenge students to
demonstrate superior presentation skills,
encourage students to present their research
work at AACC Intl., highlight the best research
conducted and presented by students, and offer
an opportunity for students to interact with the
AACC Intl. community at an early stage in their
career.
The competition will be judged in two stages.
The AACC Intl. Best Student Research Paper
Competition jury reviewed the nomination forms,
abstracts, and initial presentations. Based on
the judge's scores, six students were chosen to
participate in the competition taking place at
the October 16-19, 2011, Annual Meeting in Palm
Springs, CA, U.S.A. Congratulations to the
following student finalists Hyma Gajula, Kansas
State University; Byung-Hoo Lee, Purdue
University; Elena Lutz, German Research Center
for Food Chemistry; Sandra Mandato, UMR IATE;
Leonnard O. Ojwang, Texas A&M University; and
Daniel D. Ramseyer, Washington State University. |
