Accuracy and subsequent quality control in the laboratory are basic premises on which the AACC International was founded as a scientific society on 1915. Standardization of analytical methods came first, followed by a variety of important services to cereal and food science laboratories. One such service--the AACC International Check Sample Service--has become an important safeguard to food-related laboratories worldwide.

AACC International introduced the Check Sample Service in 1948 after recognizing that laboratories had only limited ways of ensuring laboratory accuracy. Furthermore, laboratories were in need of a service by which to check their techniques on a regular and frequent basis to insure quality control.

The service began by providing checks for cereal laboratories but has diversified over the years to include analyses from many kinds of laboratories throughout the world. Today, AACC International offers a variety of check sample services of contemporary analytical interest. Laboratories rely on these services to:

  • Test equipment.
  • Monitor the use of proper methodology among laboratory personnel.
  • Qualify the work of contract laboratories.
  • Ensure the accuracy of labeling information.

For more information, see the "About Check Sample" page.
