Second, it is necessary to have installed the Acrobat Reader software. This free software is necessary to view, print, and navigate the methods documents. The Acrobat Reader version 4.0 is highly recommended. Also download the plug-ins that enable the Reader application to open within the viewing frame of your browser. If the Acrobat Reader (once installed) does not open when you select a particular method or does not open within the viewing frame, refer to the troubleshooting tips below.

The latest Acrobat Reader software is available for free by clicking the link or the graphic below.

Navigating the Methods site.

The Approved Methods online site is built with frames to facilitate an integrated, easily navigated, fully linked, and fast loading product. The frame at left is always available for navigation; the frame on the right is the viewing frame. The "Chapters" link opens a file that contains shortcuts to sections in the Table of Contents. Click any entry in the Table of Contents to open and view a particular method.

Methods that cite other methods contain hyperlinks (indicated with red text) to the related documents. Also, methods with additional information on how to obtain apparatus or reagents contain links (highlighted in yellow) to the appropriate entry in the supplier's index.

The Acrobat toolbar facilitates navigation and easy viewing. Below are short descriptions of the more useful tools.
